The final curtain: World Cup 2010 comes to an end

All good things come to an end and today is no different. The World Cup is over and we just have three awards to announce, then we will close our doors and not bother you again from here.

We will bother you from Footballocracy - our new site all about football, but for now, we are here to say goodbye.

We are also here to tell you that Uruguay striker Diego Forlan was named the winner of the Golden Ball as the best player of the World Cup. The Atletico Madrid forward, 31, scored five goals and was a major influence for his side who reached the semi-finals.

German striker Thomas Mueller, who also scored five at this World Cup was named as the best young player of the tournament and also won the Golden Boot for most goals - his three assists acting as a tie-breaker and winning him the award.

But and as so many papers have said today - the real winner is South Africa. It was a fantastic World Cup, even if one or two things were a surprise.
